The Catastrophe Box

(2026)
A Story by

Set over a century ago, Robert's wife Sonia returns from London desperately clutching a quizzical wooden box, unsettled and unwelcoming of questions. As Robert attempts to get to the bottom of the box's enigmatic origins, things begin to unravel in a way that impacts his scientific-minded, conventional reality--and possibly, the entire world's.

This traditional gothic horror short story is a terrifying fictionalization of a real case from history, that of the psychic investigator Harry Price (1881–1948) caught up in mysterious circumstances involving an elderly Englishwoman who persuaded her followers that she was pregnant with the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. What follows is a gripping tale of a married couple caught up in the machinations of a madwoman with delusions of motherhood and divinity, and a trail of riddles whose answers may bear ill for all mankind.
