After failing on his most recent expedition fossil-hunter Jim Dragon meets Lachlan Armstrong, a gold prospector, who presents him with a chance to regain his fortunes. Lachlan is also down on his luck after an unsuccessful trip in which he found no gold, although he did unearth what looked like a massive bone.
Jim and Lachlan join forces, but it’s not long before Jim comes to regret his decision. First he finds out that they’re heading into bandit country. Then he suspects that Lachlan might not be the man he thought he was, and by the time he comes up against his old rival Pierre Dulaine the only way out of all his problems is to solve the riddle of Cooper’s gold.
