Beryl is surrounded in his declining years following the death of his son, with attendants hoping to receive a portion of his legacy, since there remains no heir, and he would never leave any of his possessions to a family member.
Written by James Payn (1830 - 1898). Published in serial form in 1882-1883, and then in 3-Volumes (London) and a single complete volume (New York) in 1883.
