The Case of The Red-Handed Rhesus

(2016)
(The second book in the Rue and Lakeland Mystery series)
A novel by

Noel Rue and her husband Lance already lead busy lives, juggling their work at
the Midwest Primate Sanctuary with the task of protecting their teen foster
daughter, Natasha, from the still-dangerous remnants of a child-porn ring. Are
they really ready to adopt six-year-old twins with Asperger's syndrome? When
they answer yes, they're plunged into the world of special needs parenting even
as chaos blooms at the sanctuary. Besides being low on funds and volunteers,
Midwest Primates is nearly at capacity, but owners are surrendering animals in
record numbers. Rhesus macaques start escaping, and Noel and Lance know
somebody's been monkeying with the enclosures. When a decapitated body disrupts
a morning feeding, it's clear time is running out. The police scramble for clues
as macaques dangle from the rafters. Will Noel and Lance solve the mystery, or
be the next ones to lose their heads . . . literally?
