I read this book when I was in 4th or 5th grade. I used to just look at the spines for titles that sounded good, and then I'd check it out. I fully expected it to be about a boy that could actually make himself disappear. It was not what I expected at all. I found it, even at that age, a gripping story of a boy that might as well have been invisible. His mother and father are selfish, self absorbed, mean spirited individuals that should never have had children! I must have read this yearly from the time I was in 4th or 5th grade until I graduated high school. It helped me be more compassionate person towards those that did not seem "normal". I, too, felt a little like this boy, even though I had pretty great parents. My school life was a struggle, and this book helped me see anything can be overcome!

I became an elementary school teacher, and each year I would read this book to my classes. We would discuss it as well, and I am sure it helped many of my students. It's well written!

It will change your life!
