She walked across the world to kneel at the empty tomb of Jesus. God had a longer road in mind.

Based on the true story of Margaret of Jerusalem, the Englishwoman who defended the walls of the Holy City with a cooking pot for a helmet.

Born in the Holy City and raised in England, Margaret has wanted one thing all her life: to kneel where Christ rose from the dead. At twenty-four, she sells everything she owns and takes the pilgrim road alone, and she will not let any man stand in her way, not even the sharp-tongued merchant who argues with her across the Mediterranean.

She reaches Jerusalem in the summer of 1187, just as Saladin’s army destroys the Christian kingdom at Hattin. When there are too few men left to hold the walls, Margaret straps on a dead man’s breastplate, puts a pot from the hospital kitchen on her head, and climbs up to carry water to the men fighting there.

The city falls. Margaret is ransomed, then seized by raiders and sold into slavery in the hills. Beaten and stripped of everything but her faith, she does the one thing no one expects. She prays for the men who whip her.
And her master’s daughter is watching.

Margaret of Jerusalem is a clean, faith-filled historical romance about a woman who learned in the darkest places that God wastes nothing, not even our suffering, and about a love that crossed a burning country to find her.

Includes a map of Margaret’s journeys, illustrations, and an author’s note on the real history behind the story.
