What happens when the main character in a story realizes he's a work of fiction?
A 16-year-old aspiring writer sits down to write a story. But he's not a very good writer...at all. So when his protagonist becomes self-aware, he decides to rewrite the story according to his rules. A Prisoner of His Own Mind is the absurd tale of what happens when a character fights back.

Selected as a Penn Review Magazine finalist.

Interview with the Author

Q - What makes "A Prisoner of His Own Mind" special?
A - It's funny! The first paragraph is intentionally poorly-written, so please, please, please read past that! I wanted to write something humorous that kind of bent reality, and explored the relationship between an author and his character...while poking fun at both of them. It's sort of a humorous paranormal story, and it's very meta.

Q - Why should readers give this book a try?
A - It's a short, light read, and I guarantee it will give you a chuckle. It was also a finalist for the Penn Literary Review's annual fiction award, so some people I don't even know thought it was pretty good. If you're a fan of absurdism or absurdist fiction, or just funny free books in general, grab a copy and try it.

Q - Have you written other books?
A - Yup! If humor is your thing, you should definitely check out Combat and Other Shenanigans, the NY Times-bestselling memoir of my year in Iraq as a tank and scout platoon leader. You can get it for free here: http://piersplatt.com/newsletter (copy and paste into your browser).
