Unexpectedly, a problem with the new technology of the movie’s production led to a surprising chance for Kendel to meet Flora in person. And then the problem mushroomed and led to an extraordinary cataclysm that hurled both Kendel and Flora into the fictional fantasy world of the movie script, detached from the reality they knew.
Together, and initially unsure of one another, Flora and Kendel try to comprehend what has happened to them, and then they seek to resolve the problem and find a way to return to their own world.
In the course of their efforts, they come to appreciate the adventure and energy of life in the fantasy world, and they come to appreciate as a real place, one where they can live lives of heroic deeds.
When they are returned to their own world, Kendel and Flora celebrate before going their own ways, attempting to return to their own lives. They find though, that they’ve developed a relationship with each other that binds them together. And they realize they miss the adventure of the alternative reality.
Kendel is given a chance to return to the Preternatural Land of gods and magic and adventure. As soon as he arrives, he decides he must fetch Flora to join him. He rejoins many of the characters he had come to know in his first incarnation in the land, and helps lead them to safety, before he finds a challenging way to return to his own reality.
He reconnects with Flora, and together the pair of them return to the magical lands as affectionate companions, ready to accomplish the duty of rescuing the goddess Miriam, who had been consigned to the underworld in a deadly battle.
But Flora and Kendel accidentally desecrate an ancient burial site, and a curse is placed on them to prevent Flora from loving Kendel. The frustrated Kendel agonizes over the loss of love, but the pair continue on with their travels to set Miriam free, experiencing adventure along a road that takes them into a wilderness and then a whole new civilization beyond the reach of the gods they've come to know.
