I'm a middle son of a small town fishing family. There’s six of us. We’re all extremely ambitious and extremely competitive hockey playing brothers.

Lately I've been trying harder to escape the notice of my family. I don’t want them to know about my long-time crush on Sofia Rossi, one of the twin daughters who the men of the family protect like gold.
The family rivalry shouldn't matter in this day and age. We're not like the Hatfields and McCoys. We're not trying to kill each other. There’s no violence here.
But we’re rivals in the struggling fishing industry in town, sharpening the long standing personal enmity that started with my great grandparents. I don’t know the details. No one will talk about it.
The squeeze of small fishing businesses in the area puts everyone on edge.
Our families are circling their wagons and that makes it all the more important to mind who I associate with.
Not to mention the fact that I've been threatened by each of Sofia’s four brothers to stay away from her. They strongly dislike me for other reasons, possibly related to our hockey rivalry and some on-ice altercations.
Did I say there was no violence involved?
Guess I was mistaken.
So I leave her and her soul-melting beauty and sweetness alone.
My crush should have fizzled out when I went away to college, but UNH is close by and whenever I'd come home, there she was.
We see each other around town, dancing around our attraction, flirting when no one's looking, mostly watching each other from afar. And possibly having x-rated dreams.
But I don't make a move. There are plenty of other young women on campus and in town and I take full advantage of my opportunities. Why make things complicated?
That's what I think until Sofia shows up at UNH second semester of my junior year, the year I’m trying desperately to make my breakout in hockey and get noticed by the NHL.
