St. Petersburg, 1820. Grandeur. Music. Poverty, cruelty, and dangerous secrets.
When caring but timid Abigail travels to Russia, she hopes to explore her future with her music partner Moishe and to help him win over audiences. Instead, she is swept into a mystery that reaches deep into her late mother's past and threatens the family she loves.
Before her mother became an impoverished cleaner in England, she had been a celebrated singer in St. Petersburg. As Abigail uncovers forgotten clues, she begins to question everything she believed about her own past. Who was her father? Why did her mother never speak of him? And why did her adoptive father forbid her and Moishe from seeking out Rogozov, the influential voice teacher who taught her mother her legendary song?
But the truth comes at a cost. As family secrets become entangled with a dangerous political conspiracy, Abigail discovers that courage is needed far beyond the concert hall. To save others, she must choose whether to remain silent—or risk her safety by speaking up.
