Escaping the scary parts of life can be harder than expected.

Loren’s one of the few humans who can see the light in a shifter’s eyes that separates them from humans. For years he endured physical and emotional torment at the hands of a shifter who claimed to love him, but treated him as little more than a toy. Running across the country with little cash and only a faint spark of hope in his heart, Loren yearns to find somewhere he doesn’t see shifters everywhere he looks. But sometimes fate has a way of leading people to where they will do the most good, even if they can’t stop acting like prey.

Owen doesn’t care to be involved in the politics of the local bear clan. He’s content with his job as a bouncer at the local Wild, a shifter-exclusive bar on the Oregon coast, and helping his sister stay hidden from the shifters who would kill her for being a throwback, a shifter who can’t shift. When a pack of wolf shifters hunts them for trying to help one of their own throwbacks have a life, Owen ends up in something bigger than a bar fight.

Drawn together by forces out of their control, Loren and Owen find something that’s missing in their lives, but Loren’s sworn off shifters, and Owen doesn’t know how to deal with a human who acts more like prey than any he’s ever known. Sometimes opposites do attract and one shifter can help heal the wounds left by another, if they're both willing to take a chance.
