Red wolves were believed to be extinct, but when a red-hooded elf crosses paths with one, fate may have other plans.
In a world where every elf is gifted with unworldly abilities from a young age, Zelie is the only one who remains ordinary. On her birthday, nothing changes—except the weight in her chest.
After a cutting remark from her cousin pushes her over the edge, Zelie flees into the wild woods beyond the village. There, she finds something impossible: a red wolf, caged by humans. And when the wolf speaks, Zelie understands him.
The gift she thought would never come had in fact come after all.
But her discovery sets off a chain of danger. The humans aren’t just trespassing—they’re searching for a way into a deadly land only elves can safely enter. And when her cousin’s recklessness leads to the capture of the elven king—her father—Zelie is left with a choice: hide in the safety of home, or find her father.
With a talking wolf at her side, and the cousin she thought she hated, Zelie sets out on a journey that will test the limits of her courage—and the strength of a gift born from something deeper.
