US Marshal Chad Taylor, from Denver, is pursuing an escaped fugitive and has learned that he might be in Shoshone land in Utah. He comes to Bear Creek and hires Caleb Johnson to guide him to the unfamiliar territory and to act as a go-between with his wife Flora’s Shoshone village. Upon arrival they learn that the fugitive has teamed up with a gang of outlaws who are trespassing on Shoshone hunting grounds and now, Caleb faces a dual problem: help Chad catch his fugitive and keep a war from starting should the angry Shoshone decide to evict the trespassers by force.
