(2002)
A novel by

"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers" 2 Corinthians 6:14. Rich, spoiled, Elizabeth Courtland delights in shocking turn-of-the-century Grand Rapids, Michigan society - and is attracted to her fiance's best friend at her engagement party! Daniel Spencer is not immune to "Madcap Betty's" charms, but steadfastly refuses to be unequally yoked with an unbeliever. Disaster follows the willful girl's determination to humble the dedicated young minister. Her long-suffering fiance jilts her. Her irate father locks her in her room. Betty and her maid steal away and board a train west to Pioneer, Washington, where Daniel is building his first church. The hamlet mainly consists of seven saloons and one grocery store. Daniel is appalled by Betty's arrival. Penniless and rejected, but too proud to admit it, she is forced to find work for which she is ill-prepared. It takes a near-tragedy for the headstrong girl to seek the only One Who can save Daniel - the God she vowed to fight in order to get her own way.
