Maureen Hartley went to The Towers, a large country house in Norfolk, to nurse Ellen Montague, who had only nine months to live. Maureen was determined to do the best she could for her patient, but she soon discovered that Ellen Montague's husband was impatient for his wife's death, and his callous behaviour only worsened her condition. Maureen took control of the situation, and she hoped to better it, knowing that if she failed then a great tragedy would befall her patient. She also met Kirk Devlin, a young local doctor, and that was where all the complications really started...
