Miss Araminta Scott would much rather conjugate Latin verbs than endure another country house party, let alone fend off the tiresome advances of Lord Blackwell—a man whose charm, she’s certain, is only skin-deep. When the notoriously handsome nobleman corners her yet again with his insipid flattery, Araminta, fueled by brandy and exasperation, proposes a wager: he has one week to seduce her… intellectually. If he can make her swoon with his words alone, she’ll grant him a kiss.

Lord Blackwell, convinced his poetic prowess is unrivaled, accepts at once. But his ‘brilliant’ verses turn out to be hilariously bad, his quotations laughably wrong, and his Latin—well, it’s best left untranslated.

And yet, despite herself, Araminta begins to see something beneath his blunders: earnestness, vulnerability… and perhaps even a heart worth winning.
