Photographer Jack Sipes has returned from Japan, where he had a hand in saving the world from oceanic monsters. Now he’s scrambling for a new job as his newspaper folds. He accepts an offer to take some photographs for a mysterious doctor, which turn out to be part of something much bigger and stranger. Soon he finds himself in the middle of the last surviving spider yokai’s ancient feud with her New World counterpart, a shadowy trickster known as the Keeper of All Stories, or more familiarly as Anansi the Man-Spider.
