When the Government holds Michael Windsor’s son Andy prisoner to study his special powers, Michael tries to free him. His attempt fails and Michael escapes, beginning a frantic flight. It takes him and Mac, a sentient machine across the country, involving them in a gang shooting, a presidential assassination, and two domineering female pirates.
His son Andy also escapes and, disguised as a girl, sets out on a journey to find his father. When Laura, the woman Michael loves, is also targeted by the Government, she too escapes and flees to find Michael.
Ultimately, all three head toward St. Louis where a showdown with the Government looms. Can they win freedom and live normal lives, or will they be crushed by tyranny?
