Honorhas spent thirty-five years perfecting the art of being overlooked.

A cheerful, divorced princess in the human kingdom, she serves as little more than a ceremonial figurehead in the court ruled by her distant father. A historic peace treaty is forged between humans and orcs to end generations of war. The orcs are agreeable to this because they need their armies to fight the baledrakes, wingless ravenous dragons who nest in their mountains and feed on their young. Honor expects only to help coach her teenage niece into an arranged royal marriage.

Instead, she becomes the bride.

Chosen unexpectedly by the charismatic orc prince Lythe, Honor is swept away from everything she has known. But it is not the prince who captures her attention—it's his half brother, Lord Sever, the orc kingdom's celebrated warrior. Their first meeting sparks an undeniable attraction, only for Sever to turn cold when he believes Honor is destined to become his brother's wife. Their growing tension survives even after Lythe reveals the truth: he never intended to keep Honor for himself, but to unite her with Sever all along.

As Honor settles into orc society, she discovers a people far different from the monsters of human legend. Her scholarly nature leads her into forgotten histories and lore while her new husband and his armies face an escalating crisis. The baledrakes are attacking in unprecedented numbers. Honor and Sever must work together to defeat, not only the beastly drakes, but other rising evils that threaten.

Sometimes the scariest monsters are not only the ones with claws and fire, but the ones who wear crowns.
