A 6’5’ mountain man just saved my life.
I got separated from my hiking group four hours ago, and I couldn’t feel my fingers.
It started snowing an hour in, and my phone died before I could call anyone.
My legs gave out ten minutes ago, and I was just trying to keep my eyes open.
I was curled up in a ball in the snow, expecting this to be my last day.
Suddenly, two warm hands slid under my body, and he lifted me like I weighed nothing.
He carried me through the snow up to a cabin, and laid me down on the rug in front of the fireplace.
He stripped off my wet jacket and sweater, then took off his flannel and wrapped me in it.
He pressed a mug of something hot to my lips, because I was shaking too hard to hold it.
I finally found my voice and asked if I could borrow his phone to call my group.
He looked out the window at the snow coming down, then back at me, and growled,
‘There’s no service up here. You’ll have to wait till tomorrow to go back down.’
