I lost my apartment three days ago and I’ve been driving with my daughter ever since.
Last night, during a blizzard, my car broke down and we were trapped on a mountain.
My daughter’s lips were already turning blue, so I zipped her in my jacket and carried her through the snow until I found a nearby cabin.

Later that night my daughter and I both fell asleep on the couch.
I woke up and felt two warm hands sliding under my body as he carried us down the hall.
He laid my daughter in a small bed, and he tucked her in like he’d done it a thousand times.
Then he carried me to his room, and I asked him where he was going to sleep.
He grabbed a blanket off the chair, and rumbled,
‘You sleep in my bed. I’ll take the floor.’
