Before they were the Chosen Hero and the Demon Queen, Rhydan and Maelis were simply two adventurers who met in a ruin, accidentally triggered an ancient death trap, and discovered they fought together far too well.

Then destiny ruined everything.

Rhydan was chosen as humanity’s legendary Hero. Maelis inherited a throne and the legendary class of Demon Queen. Suddenly, the two people who had traveled together, fought side by side, and become far more important to each other than either intended were expected to lead opposing armies—and eventually kill one another.

They had other ideas.

For years, they fought just convincingly enough to satisfy kingdoms while secretly exchanging intelligence, exposing atrocities on both sides, and undermining the people profiting from the war. When the System itself finally demanded that Rhydan slay the Demon Queen and Maelis kill the Chosen Hero, they did the one thing no prophecy had prepared for.

They both said no.

Now the war is over, the world is learning how to survive without them, and Rhydan and Maelis have chosen retirement.

Their brilliant plan?

Buy a roadside inn.

Unfortunately, defeating destiny turns out to be considerably easier than repairing a roof.

The Lantern & Loaf has leaking ceilings, questionable stairs, almost no money, something with teeth living beneath the pantry, and a garden that Maelis accidentally encourages to produce vegetables worth more than the building. Rhydan can cut through siege engines but should not be trusted with basic carpentry. Maelis once commanded armies, yet somehow finds herself negotiating over flour prices and being informed that sovereign authority does not apply to the household budget.

And then people start staying.

A fiercely practical goblin. A young adventuring party. Former soldiers. Former enemies. A small fire elemental. A suspiciously spoon-oriented pantry mimic. Before long, their temporary retirement begins looking alarmingly like a home.

But the world has not forgotten its missing Hero.

Old allies still believe Rhydan belongs to them. Old institutions want their legendary weapon back. And some people cannot accept that two of the most powerful beings alive would rather argue over breakfast, fix guest rooms, and choose each other than return to the roles history assigned them.

When their quiet life is threatened, Rhydan and Maelis will have to defend something neither of them ever expected to possess:

A future they chose for themselves.

The Overpowered Couple is a cozy, slice of life LitRPG about two absurdly powerful former enemies discovering that saving the world was simple compared to building a life together—featuring slow-burn romance, found family, magical innkeeping, dry banter, domestic disasters, action, and a roof with entirely too much confidence.
