A novel by

Mia held on tight to the vampire and shut her eyes. No. Nope. Hell no. This couldn't be happening. This wasn't happening. Vampires were a myth. Legends. Not real and warm and able to carry her across an entire lake.

But the wounds in her neck seemed to think otherwise. It was all in his head. It had to be. That was why the Siege of Seattle had happened, right? Because a bunch of super-soldiers went crazy and took over the city. "You're wrong," she said with more confidence than she felt. "You're under a delusion and you were brought to Walter to fix you. He just never had a chance."

"Whatever helps you sleep at night," he said, as though her disbelief didn't faze him at all.

And he certainly didn't seem like a super-soldier who had tried to overthrow a city. After all, he'd gotten her out of there. Though, for all she knew, he'd brought her along to feed off later. Whether he was a vampire or not, obviously he believed he was.

"Put me down," she said, suddenly realizing he was carrying her as though she were an invalid.

"Give me a minute. I need you to look helpless for a little bit longer."

He was like nothing she'd ever seen before. Impossibly strong. Impossibly dangerous. Just plain impossible. And also dying.

Mia Bishop has lived a sheltered life surrounded by her studies and under her father's watchful eye. But when her father brings home a sick man who seems to defy the laws of physics, everything she thought she knew about the natural world will be tested.

Talon is just another casualty in the war between the Vampires and the Vopura. His pride and impatience got the better of him and because of that not only did he almost die, but he brought death straight to Mia's doorstep.

He knows Mia will never forgive him for what she's lost. He knows Mia will never forgive him for what she's become. But she's going to have to get over it. Because when all hope is lost, the knowledge inside her mind will be his species' only chance at survival.
