Eleanor has spent too long putting everyone else first.
She’s countered the Steel Lady’s contingency plans. Helped destroy her ammunition stores. Liberated the prisoners from the tank. She’s even buried the machines that were due to rise when her guard population dropped below twenty-five percent.
Now, finally, Eleanor can do what she wants most.
She’s going to get Matthew out of that damn silo.
And this time, nothing will stop her.
Meanwhile, Olga, Gracie, Kira, and Rufus are on their way back after raising the Icarus tower that opened the Shining City’s gates. But they have a long way to travel in a world that’s changed so quickly, they barely recognise it.
William and Matilda have already lost too much, but they still have one another. Alongside Star, they’re helping to lead an army into the city with one final goal: find the Steel Lady and put an end to her regime once and for all.
It’s been a long journey. After everything they’ve endured, the promise of peace lies somewhere inside the Shining City’s walls.
But first, they have to survive what’s waiting for them there.
Will Eleanor reach Matthew before it’s too late?
Will Olga and her friends make it back to the others?
And can William, Matilda, and their army finally bring down the Steel Lady?
Contingency is the explosive twenty-third book in the Beyond These Walls saga—a relentless post-apocalyptic thriller.
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy
