Breaking out of a POW camp? No problem.
Reuniting with his family might be a different story.

Alex Coleman is no stranger to hardship and brutality. Free after eight months in a top-secret, inhuman POW camp, he’s still trying to find his feet. Freedom, while precious, is almost a stranger, and Alex has to navigate the maze of returning from supposed death while reuniting with his wife and family.

But that last part isn’t as easy as it should be. Alex’s youngest daughter, Emily, is a freshman at the nation’s oldest private military college and Alex’s own alma mater. Unaware of her father’s miraculous return from the dead, Emily is busy preparing for Family Weekend with her fellow ‘rooks,’ never knowing that she’ll receive a completely unexpected visitor.

Tough Times Don’t Last is a family-driven novella, told against the backdrop of a perilous world war. This is a story of moments between Laws of War and An Unjust Peace and includes the fates of several characters. Like all books in the War of the Submarine series, it dives into the lasting impact of the horrors of war for both military members and their families.
