‘Are there less bags of barbecue than I remember?’ Ariel asks.
‘There absolutely are,’ Doris says.
‘It was good, too!’ Tank says. ‘Ursule, we brought dinner!’
‘Put it on the counter!’ Ursule says.
‘So you think we’re about to launch into a new plot line,’ Doris says to me. ‘What, think we’re done with the East Coast for the moment?’
‘Oh, we’ll still go and play with Bam-Daddy!’ I say. ‘But they won’t have another surprise villain for a while, because they had TWO at once!’
‘Does it work like that?’ Ariel asks.
‘I have no clue,’ Doris says.
‘Of COURSE it works like that!’ I say, posing. ‘Because I say it works like that!’
