A remote, uncaring future invades the present. The world is enslaved, humanity is twisted to serve its new masters ... and then the rebellion begins.

"They bring the embryo in, of all things, an florist's old van.

"Each house on our street gets its own embryo, and the Voice fills everyone with a sense of honor and duty. We've sealed the bathtub drain, then filled it with the heavy fluids. Tubes pump in oxygen. The workers connect the embryo to a plastic umbilical, then connect the telephone to emergency services. And I help the woman check every dial and sensor, making certain that the tiny smear of living tissue is healthy."

Robert Reed is a Hugo Award winning author, perhaps best known for the Great Ship stories. "Killing the Morrow" was written and first published back in the halcyon days of the mid-90s. This version has been slightly tweaked, improved in places and left alone in others.

"In order to kill myself, I don't have to kill my grandpa.
I just have to tickle his ... "
