Past Imperfect

(2018)
A Novella by

A widower wakes to find a dangerous woman inside his room. The woman wants to steal from him, and maybe she will kill him, but then she learns who this man really is. And that's when things get ugly.

"From her right hip pocket comes a machine with a passing resemblance to an old-fashioned Bible. She opens it like any book, activating its projector. A quantum computer sewn into the spine has been working night and day, manipulating her life story, using Lanes' equations in the same way hands shape wet clay. "My life," she says with heavy self-importance. A strangely fetching smile brightens that pretty face, and she tells her computer, "I met Morris Lanes when I was a little girl. I just don't remember when or where.""
