When a character actor who recently tried to contact John is murdered in a Fort Pierce parking lot, John is startled to learn that their paths had crossed twice before. The man was a familiar Hollywood type: a "day player" who made a living on small roles and fleeting appearances, including a few minor films in which John once starred. John barely remembers him.
