As Dan Ruylander climbed down from the stagecoach at Baker City, Oregon, he was thinking of the grim job that faced him...and had been ever since leaving Wyoming.

Then, by deception, Dan was to get the herd well on the trail without paying for it. What Dan feared most was that he would find it too easy to like Garry Terrell.
