June, 1941. Eleanor Temple, daughter of politically-connected diamond merchant Myron Temple, vanishes into occupied France with her fiance and a fortune in uncut diamonds. FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover sends rookie agent Arthur Singer to France to find her and retrieve the diamonds. Singer quickly learns that his mission is much darker and deeper than he was led to believe, a complex and delicate spider's web of politics, murder, religion, scandal and love. Singer's investigation leads him to uncover the secret of a small French town that threatens not only to kill him, but to drag the United States into the war in Europe.
