The Reluctant Detective Needs a Clue
(2025)(The seventh book in the Martin Hayden Mystery series)

If Martin was to stay at a grand country mansion, he would certainly have preferred the occasion to be a social one, rather than being embroiled in yet another investigation. His reluctance to involve himself in solving mysteries was well known. Susan, on the other hand, was positively enthusiastic about the prospect. Her eagerness was further heightened by the fact that they would be assisting Colin in uncovering the truth behind what he believed was a suspicious death.
At present, the authorities have the matter recorded as an accident. However, Colin's suspicions have been aroused by the deceased altering his last will and testament the night before his untimely demise.
If the incident did indeed prove to be murder, then it was likely that one of the mansion's eccentric inhabitants was the culprit. Upon hearing the list of peculiar residents, Martin became firmly convinced that he should neither stay at the mansion nor take part in the investigation.
Then Mother announces that she is going to stay with him while her builders are completing work on her house.
He now looks upon the investigation as a wonderful opportunity to stay in a luxury stately home for a few nights. Hopefully the builders will finish before he and Susan complete their inquiries.
What Martin has not factored in is assistance from an unexpected quarter.
