After years on the run across the multiverse, I'd genuinely hoped the quiet coastal town of Arkley would be the perfect place to settle down.

I just wanted somewhere to take it easy on the morning school run, to pile the hot chocolate high with marshmallows, and to enjoy a few high-stakes games of Keepy Uppy with my daughter, Edie.

Oh, and being able to keep my Supremacy-grade magic strictly hidden away wouldn't go amiss either.

But the powers-that-be had to go and make life complicated, didn't they? You see, our new backyard sits right on top of a dimensional tear. Now we've got Abyssal monsters interrupting playtime, and my System interface nagging me to bring the sky-burning thunder. Again.

It's all a bit of a hassle, to be honest.

But I guess someone has to keep the neighborhood standing. And with a heavily armed government operative masquerading as my daughter's new teacher on one side, and a shapeshifting bear who bakes a brilliant scone on the other — both of them taking a pointed interest in the single dad next door — I'm sure we'll get it sorted.

Hopefully, before the world ends. Or the HOA fines me for the state of my lawn.
