Deacon Haas has been a field agent for the DuCane coven for many years. He made a name for himself defending DuCane interests far and away from the forests of Mt. Pleasant. Back home he is a Commander for Louis DuCane’s guards and is keeping his eye on the prize, climbing to the top of the Coven he loves and keeping the borders defended. His biggest problem right now is the Northern border which has been breached on two separate occasions. Security is foremost on Deacon’s mind, not finding his beloved. When the Northern Border is breached again he gives orders for the person caught to be made an example of. They must be shown that they can never trespass on DuCane land again. What Deacon doesn’t know is that the man he has just ordered roughed up is his fate chosen beloved. When Deacon learns that his guard went too far all Deacon can think about is how can he fix this, how can he win the trust of a man who was injured at the hands of a DuCane soldier?

Gage Montague was just looking for the perfect photo. Living with his stepfather above the Zen bar isn’t a glamorous life, but if he can get his photography dreams off the ground then maybe he can be something. He knows he shouldn’t be trespassing in the woods surrounding the DuCane compound, but what harm could getting a photo be? He’s been caught twice and they only warned him off, all he needs to do is get in and get out without drawing attention. Gage soon finds himself surrounded by DuCane guards and headed for a night of pain he won’t soon forget at the hands of a DuCane guard named Trenton. He wakes up alone in an alley, bruised and bloody and terrified of what else DuCane could do to him. He wants to get out of town, but soon he finds himself face to face with the man who ordered his arrest. Can he learn to trust a man like Deacon, a commander for Louis DuCane? Can he believe that a vampire would accept someone like his as their beloved? His willingness to forgive and to love will determine if he and Deacon survive the danger that will soon surround them.

Fate is never wrong, but the road can be long.
