A novel by Celia Skye

My car dies at the gate of a Christmas tree farm with the snow coming down sideways and no cell service for twenty kilometers.
One cabin. One light on.
The man who opens the door fills the whole doorway. Dark beard, green eyes, the look of someone who hasn't spoken to another person in weeks. He tells me the roads are already gone, and I'm staying.
Not asking. Telling.

Fifteen Christmases up here on my own, and it suited me fine, right up until she walked eleven minutes through a blizzard to knock on my door.
Now she's in my shirt, talking, filling up every quiet corner of the place. And I can't remember why I wanted it quiet.
Three days snowed in. One bed. A fire that doesn't go out.
