(2025)(The third book in the Rainbow Ranch Mystery series)
A novel by Elise M Stone
Riding, roping, and romance. Until a murder stops it all.
With the arrival of Gayle Mathers, champion barrel racer and former rodeo queen, Rainbow Ranch is finally positioned to fulfill Fox Fordyce’s dream of being the premier training facility for young women with a desire to follow in her footsteps.
Gayle has agreed to take on three ambitious girls for a two week tryout, but only one will remain for an additional three weeks of coaching, along with a sponsorship for her entry in the Tucson Junior Rodeo. Competition among her students starts out intense, and quickly escalates to a fever pitch.
But that’s not the only competition going on. Garth Holden, the ranch foreman, agrees to train three teenaged boys to rope and ride in the same way, with the same prize.
Bringing together young teen girls and slightly older teen boys amps up a stampede of raw emotions, and the adults aren’t sure whether it’s the rodeo or the romance that’s sparking their students’ unschooled behavior.
Meanwhile, Gayle and Garth struggle with an onslaught of memories of their own, of a time when they were almost as young as their students, and their dreams were nearly the same. Passion sizzles in the cool desert winter, and Gayle can’t wait for what she’d originally hoped would be a permanent job to end.
But when one of the girls suffers a fatal injury, and Lilliana is out of commission, the competitionfor the sponsorship and the romance and even a championship bucklebecomes almost trivial. Gayle knows she’ll have to solve the mystery to keep all of her young charges safe. And if there’s to be any hope for the ranch to fulfill its promise.
