Emma Schrock is a young midwife who has not given much thought to her own future and familye. She's been content to deliver other people's babies... that is until recently. When she is summoned to deliver a stranger's baby and then rudely dismissed, she was willing to forgive and forget. But upon arriving at the house the next morning, she is told the baby died during the night. Devastated and confused, Emma flees New Wilmington for Quarryville. There she meets Levi Fisher, saves his sister and newborn daughter by handling a tricky delivery, but is that enough to restore her faith in her own abilities and judgment? She'd thought the baby that had died was healthy and perfect as well, but she'd not even been allowed to view the dead body. Levi Fisher has been waiting patiently for Gott to bring the right woman into his life. Emma arrives to save the day, and over a period of weeks they become close friends. When she confides her suspicions about the dead baby to him, he agrees to help her discover the truth. Follow along as Emma and Levi embark on a journey where they learn to trust in one another and follow the path Gott leaves for them. Will they find the answers Emma needs to move forward with her chosen career path, or will their journey destroy the friendship that is building between them? Will they discover a love that is willing to go beyond normal expectations in order to protect one's own flesh and blood? And if so, what will they do with it?
