Ash is only a level three scavenger and apprentice smith when a raid goes wrong. But he uses knowledge from the forge to slay a wounded elite and save his friends.
After taking the carcass, he finds it holds a Soul Gem worth a fortune.
He can sell it and be rich, or craft it into a weapon to grow with him for life.
Ash chooses power over wealth, but the gem decides to bind with his father’s smithing hammer, making for one weird and unwieldy weapon. And that’s only the start of his troubles. Monsters want the soul gem back, and adventurers want the weapon for themselves. The danger home might just be bigger than the one Riftside.
