Unfortunately for Patrick, his latest assignment has landed him in Garnet, Iowa, a small town that has turned October into an art form. And Mal, Garnet's newly elected mayor and unofficial Halloween enthusiast-in-chief, is determined to show the visiting journalist exactly what he's been missing.

Except somewhere between haunted attractions, pumpkin carving, a forgotten town mystery, and an increasingly distracting attraction to the woman showing him around, Patrick starts enjoying himself.
Mal has a bigger problem. The more time she spends with Patrick, the less she wants to remember that he's only passing through. He's supposed to write his story and leave. She's supposed to let him.
