Her guilt has haunted her for years. Now her daughter's life depends on the mercy of a teacher from Galilee.
Jaliyah is trapped in an arranged marriage, but her heart belongs to another. Though her family's cloth trade has brought her wealth, she finds little joy in a life controlled by her overbearing mother and a husband who has long kept his distance. Drawn in by the allure of her old love, Jaliyah surrenders in a moment of weakness.
Years later, convinced that her daughter Yara is bound by an unclean spirit, Jaliyah searches desperately for healing, wondering if her own sin has brought this suffering upon her innocent child. When rumors reach her of a Jewish teacher who heals what seems beyond restoring, she does everything she can to bring her daughter to him. But why would the teacher listen or offer mercy and deliverance to a woman like her?
Shining a light on the little-known story of the Syrophoenician woman from the New Testament, Jill Eileen Smith brings the Bible to life through this ancient historical fiction of faith and redemption. Fans of Mesu Andrews, Tessa Afshar, Angela Hunt, and The Chosen will savor this one.
