The Grave and the Gates
(2019)(The second book in the World of Gloam series)
A novel by Jodie Seibert
She stared at the white moths, convinced she was in a dream
Galatea Gaunt has been on the run her entire life. Torn from her people, and then permanently torn from her family, she longs for the day she can find someone who is not one of Ghoul's cruel goons. Then she stumbles upon a Grave, one of the final resting places for the moths made from each person's last bit of magic. There, she sees something incredible. Something that could change her world, for she carries a secret that could save many people, if only she finds more with whom she can join her magic. For she is a Gnome, one of the last. And then she meets Durward. Having been alone for so long, she is immediately smitten.
But can he return her affection?
And when her past comes back to haunt her, will she even survive? Or is everything she wants merely an impossible dream?
The Grave and the Gates is a novella of approximately 33,000 words, and is book two of two in The World of Gloam series, which is a duology comprised of two companion stories. Each tale takes place during roughly the same time period, but follows a different character. While each is complete in its own right, the author recommends that readers start with the first one in the series, for it will give them a better understanding of the fantasy world. The second novella also spoils certain plot points of the first story.
