John Sack was a founder of literary journalism, the one new literary form of the twentieth century. He was a journalist for fifty-five years. He was a newspaper reporter in North and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia, a contributor to Harper's, The Atlantic and The New Yorker, a contributing editor of Esquire, a writer, producer, and special correspondent for CBS News and its bureau chief in Spain, a war correspondent in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan, and the author of ten nonfiction books like M ("Great reportage," The New York Times). John Sack died at 7 pm PST Saturday, March 27, 2004.
