James Toledo has defeated the first of the gangs that attacked his family, but three of them—and the brother who betrayed him—still remain.
And now they know James has returned to the city.
His dungeon is established, but except for Felgoth the Abomination, it’s weak and can neither protect James nor help him hunt down his enemies. James spends his nights engaged in a secret war through Norhilm’s underworld, and his days trying to gather allies from the great noble houses.
He needs at least four other houses to ally with him if he intends to formally take his rightful place as a Dungeon Lord of the Empire of Vered and secure the necessary political protection to survive his mortal enemy’s wrath.
At the same time, James must raise his dungeon up and gather enough personal power to protect himself and his allies, especially Flea and Anna, from the supernatural enemies they all now have. Because a formidable foe, one invisible even to the sight of gods, has begun hunting the champions of good—including James himself.
