A Duchess By Promise
(2026)(The first book in the Ashbourne Chronicles series)
A novel by JR Salisbury
They were promised to one another as children. Neither expected the promise to become a marriage.
Sebastian Ashbourne, Duke of Ravensmere, has spent his life guided by duty. When the time comes to honor the betrothal arranged years ago between him and Elizabeth Whitmore, he does what is expected of him—even if neither of them is quite certain what to expect from the marriage that follows.
Elizabeth has always known that one day she would become Sebastian's duchess. But knowing her future and living it prove to be very different things. At nineteen, she arrives at Ashbourne House determined to find her place in a new family, a vast estate, and a marriage to a man she scarcely knows.
Their marriage begins with courtesy, separate rooms, and the careful distance of two people bound together by a promise made for them long ago.
But as Elizabeth becomes part of life at Ashbourne, Sebastian begins to discover the intelligent, compassionate woman behind the girl he once knew. And Elizabeth finds beneath the duke's reserve a man whose quiet humor, loyalty, and devotion are increasingly difficult to resist.
Friendship becomes trust. Trust becomes desire. And somewhere between duty and the life they are building together, an old promise begins to feel remarkably like a choice.
A Duchess by Promise is the first book in The Ashbourne Chronicles, a Regency romance series about family, friendship, and finding love where it was least expected.
