It was old Mrs Jessop who said that they should go to Wales. For 13 year old Simon this seemed like the solution: he hated his new stepmother, Mrs Jessop hated the home she was in. They head off, by bus, lorry and train, and their arrival is not what either expects, but they do find happiness.
