Riko — infamous former captain of The Shield, battle mage without equal, Dominus of not one but two fighting houses — has clawed his way to the top of the Kespian Isle’s society. During his ascent though, he’s learned that power in Kespian Isle isn't a throne you sit on, it’s a blade that you hold to your enemies’ throats before they can press it to yours.
With a newborn heir, a pregnant lover, and a household of beautiful women needing his protection, Riko should be consolidating and fortifying his estates. Instead, he's fighting wolves in the countryside, cementing his loyalty with the commoners, dismantling corrupt legislation from inside the viper's nest of the Arena Council, and continuing his domination of the Grand Arena’s blood-soaked sands. He also finds himself navigating the razor-sharp scrutiny of the King of Oron’s sister, Angelica Koom, who has been sent to Kespian Isle to see whether Riko is still a loyal servant of the King, or a rising threat.
