Carter Prichard is the Void King of the Borderlands—a farmer-turned-warlord trapped between an elven army and a human king who wants him hanged. His magic-devouring sword grows stronger with every battle, and so does the thing living inside it. Carter must learn to dominate this deadly force, but first, he must find a way to kill the Archmage Solendus al'Ren—because right now, every power Carter possesses slides off the ancient elf like rain.
With his treasury bleeding dry, spies in his ranks, and two soul-weapons pulling toward each other with a hunger he can barely control, Carter descends into the dwarven deep seeking answers. To survive, Carter must unlock secrets buried since the ancient wars, but the answers he uncovers point toward a great evil the world believes extinct… and to win, Carter will have to use this new power without being lost to its darkness himself.
