The more Teryl Gray learns about the true nature of the world around her, the more dangerous her life becomes. Now she is in the wilderness of Missouri, hunting a creature she's only heard of in passing on the internet: the Rake.
Far from merely being an internet legend, the Rake is a supernatural being of power and immense hunger—hunger for the flesh of humans. The trouble is, a Rake can only be made by one of the Forlorn: immortal creatures like Teryl's boss, Ware. Did he create the Rake and leave it to ravage the countryside? Or was it made by someone else, someone like him, who may have a score to settle with an old enemy?
Teryl will have to help capture and subdue a creature that has far more power than she, and an appetite to match. What can she do when forces beyond her control continue to threaten her and all she holds dear?
