Shadowed by a stray he names Fantasma, five-year-old Mateo Sandoval flees the poverty and crime of his homeland with his mother in search of the American dream. During the day, Sooner accompanies Grayson’s girlfriend, Brandy Anders, to her new job as an assistant to small-town lawyer, Rex Franzen. With Sooner’s help, Brandy finds new purpose.
