Man of War

(2025)
(The third book in the Vendetta Kings series)
A novel by

He's my brother's best friend. My court-appointed babysitter. And the man I've been stuck living with for weeks.
I call it war.
He calls it foreplay.

Ben:

I’m stuck living in his house.

That’s the deal. Wear the ankle monitor, keep my mouth shut, and submit to supervision from the cocky, golden boy investigator who got me out of prison. My brother's best friend. He risked his career for me.

But now he acts like I owe him something.

I don’t like him.

I don’t like the way he looks at me. Like he knows me. Like he’s been waiting years for the chance to break me.

I lost control once. I’ll never do it again.

Not in a fight—and sure as hell not over some privileged rich boy who thinks I'm his new toy to play with.

Colton:

He hates me.

Not that I blame him. If I were Ben Beaufort, I’d hate everything I represent too. Wealth. Privilege. A system that chewed him up and spit me out polished. I was born with the benefit of the doubt. He wasn’t.

I was handed the keys to his cage and told to play warden.

But I didn’t take the job for justice.

I took it because I’ve wanted him since I was twenty and found his photo in his brother’s wallet. Wanted the strength, the silence, the heat just under the surface.

Now he sleeps ten feet from my bedroom. And every sleepless night, I hear his mattress creak as he shifts restlessly. He thinks if he stays still long enough, the ache will go away.

But I know better. I can feel it. Every time he looks at me. Every time he refuses.

He wants it.

He just doesn’t want to be the one who breaks first.

He thinks this is war. So be it.

I'm willing to fight for our happily-ever-after.
